A new Starbucks coffee shop will open Jan. 16 in Gray Library. The store held a soft opening Jan. 12 where they gave away free drinks to patrons.
“We wanted to get a feel for the crowds and test the staff,” senior J’Qriyya Nelson, who was working the cash register, said. “We’ve been giving away free beverages all week, starting around 10 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m.”
Construction of the new addition began in early 2017 and was expected to be completed in October but was delayed due to Hurricane Harvey. Starting Jan. 16, Starbucks will operate full-time with a full menu compatible with standalone branches.
“It was cold today, so I came in to get my coffee,” LUPD officer Bianca Tristan said. “When I found out it was free, I was even happier.”
